Minor Baseball (League Age 8 - 9)
Minor Division baseball is for boys and girls who want to learn the fundamentals
of hitting and fielding. Players pitch in Minor Baseball and Umpires will be calling
balls and strikes. This division follows official Little League rules. The primary goals of
Minor Baseball are to instruct children in the fundamentals of baseball and to
allow them to experience the value of teamwork.
Team Information
Minor teams have approximately 11-12 players. The selection of players for the teams
in Minor Baseball must comply with the Little League Draft Selection System. This is
done to ensure a competitive balance among the teams. LLL does not accept requests
to play with friends or for a specific coach.
Team Practice
Minor teams begin practicing in about mid-April. There will be 2-4 preseason practices; these may fall on any day during the week. Once the season begins, the normal practice day for this division is Saturday. Practices will run 2 hours in length.
Team Games
Minor teams play 2 game per week, on Tuesday & Thursday evenings (12 total). Games start at 6:30 and run 1.5 - 2 hours in length. Umpires are introduced at this level and will be calling balls and strikes. Games are scheduled against other LLL teams and teams outside of LLL. Some travel is required (Milan & Ypsilanti). Games are scheduled from late April through early June and are played at Cloverleaf Fields. In case of a cancellation due to inclement weather, every effort will be made to reschedule the game as soon as possible.
Uniform and Equipment
Each player will receive a jersey, hat, and pants, which they may keep after the season. Each player needs to bring their own glove to practice and games. The League provides each team with a bat, balls, catchers gear, and helmets, although it is encouraged for players to bring their own bat and helmet if possible. Plastic cleats are not required, but highly recommended.
